The crazy thing is he's not super unique. The TV show Shark Tank
regularly has kids pitch their business ideas and even has a

Pretty soon there will be a venture capital firm dedicated to
funding ideas from 3-year-olds =F0=9F=A4=AA

This focus on young "wunderkinds" has put a ton of pressure on
all of us to come up with some kind of ground-breaking,
industry-shattering idea before we're 35 =F0=9F=91=B5=F0=9F=8F=BC =F0=9F=91=
=B4=F0=9F=8F=BE

I can't be alone in thinking that the way we view an acceptable
TIMELINE to success as horribly wrong!?!?

How Did We Get Here?

Like most good stories, it all started with the Industrial
Revolution =F0=9F=8F=AD

Factory work was super strenuous in the Industrial Revolution.
You were spending long hours doing repetitive physical labor in
environments that were, let's say, less than ergonomically
friendly.

Your worth as an employee was determined by how much you could
produce in those given situations. And, if you were younger you
could obviously produce more, THEREFORE you had more value to the
people who were paying the bills.

Fast-forward to the late 1800's and we meet the psychologist G.
Stanley Hall who introduced the concept of Adolescence. (

were given grown-up responsibilities pretty much as soon as they
could physically handle them.

That's why photos of kids from the 1800s look like 50-year-olds

But, Hall gave kids permission to "just be kids." They eventually
took on less responsibility and more emphasis was put on allowing
them time to play and explore. Which as an adult who has very
little free time and a lot of stress, that sounds pretty awesome.

Then we round it out in the 1950's when ad execs shifted their
marketing efforts to focus on younger people so that a company
could get more value out of customers who were life-long buyers.

Where Does That Leave Most of Us?

But, where does that leave most of us?

In my 20's I was absolutely horrified of turning 30. Not because
I was afraid of getting older or dying but because I was worried
that if I hadn't accomplished some massive achievement by then I
was probably out of time =F0=9F=98=82

But, as I've found out and you probably already know, that's not
how most people experience success. Think about it!

* Only .01% of people achieve "galactic success" at a young age.
WHICH WOULD MEAN pretty much everyone is considered a failure???
* AND, even if you are one of the few to accomplish something
like that what's next? Imagine having peaked in your 20s! Are you
doomed to another 50 or 60 years of mediocrity?

HECK NO!

I wish my 40-year-old self could talk to my 20-year-old self and
tell him:

* Chill out
* You have your whole lifetime to figure things out

Here's what it all boils down to: being successful is less about
how quickly or early you get there and more about how much you
stick it out.

A 30-Year Plan for Success

Rather than think about what you want the next 5 years to look
like why not think about the next 30?

What if you took the pressure off of yourself to achieve "that
thing" you've got in the back of your mind and instead put a date
on it somewhere around 2054?

Seems a lot more doable, right? And probably a lot more fun along
the way!
