One week ago today=2C my husband Greg and I bought a farmhouse in Virginia=
=2E

From the outside=2C it might seem like the whole thing happened quickly=2C=
 but it was a long road.

The process began 13 years ago when I started to rebuild my credit=2C file=
 my back taxes=2C pay off my debt=2C learn how to be a successful business=
 owner=2C and shift my mindset to believing that owning a home again was p=
ossible.

It was emotional and messy=2C and no part of it was easy. My determination=
 was tested daily. I had to learn to be consistent=2C keep my word to myse=
lf=2C stretch outside my comfort zone=2C and believe in myself - no matter=
 my circumstances. It felt endless=2C but I stuck with it.

Once my credit was healed and our savings in place=2C finding our home was=
 a huge undertaking. We took many trips to Virginia=2C looking at dozens o=
f houses we saw in endless online searches. We debated the pros and cons o=
f each one=2C trying to make the best investment possible and set ourselve=
s up for the next chapter in our lives. Once we found the perfect home for=
 us=2C there was the long and stressful process of getting approved for a=
 mortgage. Not for the faint of heart.

Yet=2C to some=2C it appeared our home purchase happened in just a couple=
 of months and was an effortless =E2=80=9Covernight success.=E2=80=9D It w=
as not.

The trap of =E2=80=9Covernight success=E2=80=9D is seductive when building=
 a new business as a Virtual Assistant. Some believe that if they do X=2C=
 they=E2=80=99ll be successful; they think=2C =E2=80=9CI just have to figu=
re out what X is=2C and I=E2=80=99ll be set.=E2=80=9D They spend their tim=
e looking for shortcuts and workarounds and get discouraged when they don=
=E2=80=99t produce results.

It's human nature to think this way=2C so don=E2=80=99t beat yourself up;=
 just know that=E2=80=99s not how you=E2=80=99ll achieve the success you=
=E2=80=99re looking for.

Being a successful business owner is a gradual process that happens over t=
ime. That doesn=E2=80=99t mean you can=E2=80=99t start making money immedi=
ately=2C but to have a sustainable business=2C you must consistently work=
 on your business and stretch outside your comfort zone. There=E2=80=99s n=
o way around it.

 gained in setting up your own business

eek ago today=2C my husband Greg and I bought a farmhouse in Virginia.<br>
<br>
<strong>From the outside=2C it might seem like the whole thing happened qu=
ickly=2C but it was a long road.</strong><br>
<br>
The process began 13 years ago when I started to rebuild my credit=2C file=
 my back taxes=2C pay off my debt=2C learn how to be a successful business=
 owner=2C and shift my mindset to believing that owning a home again was p=
ossible.<br>
<br>
<strong>It was emotional and messy=2C and no part of it was easy.</strong>=
&nbsp;My determination was tested daily. I had to learn to be consistent=
=2C keep my word to myself=2C stretch outside my comfort zone=2C and belie=
ve in myself - no matter my circumstances. It felt endless=2C but I stuck=
 with it.<br>
<br>
Once my credit was healed and our savings in place=2C finding our home was=
 a huge undertaking. We took many trips to Virginia=2C looking at dozens o=
f houses we saw in endless online searches.&nbsp;<strong>We debated the pr=
os and cons of each one=2C trying to make the best investment possible and=
 set ourselves up for the next chapter in our lives.&nbsp;</strong>Once we=
 found the perfect home for us=2C there was the long and stressful process=
 of getting approved for a mortgage. Not for the faint of heart.<br>
<br>
Yet=2C to some=2C it appeared our home purchase happened in just a couple=
 of months and was an effortless =E2=80=9Covernight&nbsp;success.=E2=80=9D=
 It was not.<br>
<br>
<strong>The trap of =E2=80=9Covernight&nbsp;success=E2=80=9D is seductive=
 when building a new business as a Virtual Assistant.&nbsp;</strong>Some b=
elieve that if they do X=2C they=E2=80=99ll be successful; they think=2C=
 =E2=80=9CI just have to figure out what X is=2C and I=E2=80=99ll be set.=
=E2=80=9D They spend their time looking for shortcuts and workarounds and=
 get discouraged when they don=E2=80=99t produce results.<br>
<br>
It's human nature to think this way=2C so don=E2=80=99t beat yourself up;=
 just know that=E2=80=99s not how you=E2=80=99ll achieve the success you=
=E2=80=99re looking for.<br>
<br>
<strong>Being a successful business owner is a gradual process that happen=
s over time.</strong>&nbsp;That doesn=E2=80=99t mean you can=E2=80=99t sta=
rt making money immediately=2C but to have a sustainable business=2C you m=
ust consistently work on your business and stretch outside your comfort zo=
ne. There=E2=80=99s no way around it.<br>
