As Virtual Assistants=2C we are natural helpers. We enjoy making the lives=
 of others better through our contributions. We=E2=80=99re driven by deadl=
ines and an innate need to cross tasks off our to-do list.

When our clients are action-oriented=2C responsive=2C and excited about ou=
r work with them=2C it=E2=80=99s exhilarating=2C and we can=E2=80=99t get=
 enough.

However=2C clients are often not as responsive or action-oriented as we=E2=
=80=99d like. Some Virtual Assistants find themselves feeling stuck=2C una=
ppreciated=2C and ghosted. That=E2=80=99s a sign that the VA has made an e=
motional investment in the work that is larger than the investment their c=
lient has made. That=E2=80=99s a recipe for disappointment.

People talk about changes they want to make in their business and projects=
 they want to take on all the time. But not all humans are built to make t=
hose things happen=2C especially on a timeline.

Think about when you=E2=80=99ve let life get in the way=2C missed a deadli=
ne=2C or given up on a project you wanted to accomplish. It happens to cli=
ents=2C too=2C and it has nothing to do with you.

If you want a thriving business=2C you must manage the emotional investmen=
t you make in your clients' work. Otherwise=2C you=E2=80=99ll be on a cons=
tant rollercoaster of ups and downs that will detract from your life and f=
rom working on your own business.

Here are three ways to stay on track:
1. Shift your mindset. It=E2=80=99s essential to realize it=E2=80=99s the=
 client=E2=80=99s prerogative to slow down or even stop the work at any ti=
me - even if they=E2=80=99ve promised you a certain number of hours each w=
eek or month.
As a business owner=2C not an employee=2C it=E2=80=99s up to you=E2=80=94n=
ot your client=E2=80=94to make sure you have enough billable hours every w=
eek. VAs have asked me how they can =E2=80=9Cget their clients to give the=
m more hours?=E2=80=9D My response: =E2=80=9CYou can=E2=80=99t.=E2=80=9D P=
utting pressure on your client in any way is never a good idea. You=E2=80=
=99re here to help=2C not nag.

2. Keep moving. One problem with slow-moving clients is that we wait for t=
hem instead of moving on. Stop doing that.
When a client stops responding or seems to be taking forever=2C check in w=
ith them via email and then move on. Spend your time on YOUR business=2C s=
pecifically on bringing in more clients. Throughout my 13-year career as a=
 Virtual Assistant=2C I brought in between one and three new clients every=
 month and never ran out of work.

3. Stop the worry. Two common fears are: 1. You=E2=80=99ve done something=
 wrong=2C and the client is angry at you=2C and 2. The client will wait un=
til the last minute to give you what you need to finish a project and stil=
l insist on the original deadline=2C even if it=E2=80=99s unrealistic.
Problem number two is solved with a simple email.
=E2=80=9CThank you for sending X to me. When we originally set the timelin=
e=2C I expected to get X by DATE. Given my commitments=2C we=E2=80=99ll ne=
ed to move the completion date to NEW DATE/TIME=E2=80=9D.
And then #stoptalking. There is no need to get emotional or place blame.

It's natural to feel invested in your client=E2=80=99s success and get ups=
et when things don=E2=80=99t go as planned.

However=2C it=E2=80=99s important to remember that just because a project=
 is stalled doesn=E2=80=99t mean you=E2=80=99re in the wrong or the client=
 doesn=E2=80=99t care about you. It means that the work isn=E2=80=99t a pr=
iority for your client. Period.

he lives of others better through our contributions. We=E2=80=99re driven=
 by deadlines and an innate need to cross tasks off our to-do list.</stron=

When our clients are action-oriented=2C responsive=2C and excited about ou=
r work with them=2C it=E2=80=99s exhilarating=2C and we can=E2=80=99t get=
 enough.<br>
<br>
However=2C clients are often not as responsive or action-oriented as we=E2=
=80=99d like. Some Virtual Assistants find themselves feeling stuck=2C una=
ppreciated=2C and ghosted.&nbsp;<strong>That=E2=80=99s a sign that the VA=
 has made an emotional investment in the work that is larger than the inve=
stment their client has made.</strong>&nbsp;That=E2=80=99s a recipe for di=
sappointment.<br>
<br>
People talk about changes they want to make in their business and projects=
 they want to take on all the time. But not all humans are built to make t=
hose things happen=2C especially on a timeline.<br>
<br>
Think about when you=E2=80=99ve let life get in the way=2C missed a deadli=
ne=2C or given up on a project you wanted to accomplish.<strong>&nbsp;It h=
appens to clients=2C too=2C and it has nothing to do with you.</strong><br=
>
<br>
If you want a thriving business=2C you must manage the emotional investmen=
t you make in your clients' work. Otherwise=2C you=E2=80=99ll be on a cons=
tant rollercoaster of ups and downs that will detract from your life and f=
rom working on your own business.<br>
<br>
<strong>Here are three ways to stay on track:</strong></p>

webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;"><strong>Shift your mindset.</strong>&nbsp;=
It=E2=80=99s essential to realize it=E2=80=99s the client=E2=80=99s prerog=
ative to slow down or even stop the work at any time - even if they=E2=80=
=99ve promised you a certain number of hours each week or month.<br>
=09<br>
=09As a business owner=2C not an employee=2C it=E2=80=99s up to you=E2=80=
=94not your client=E2=80=94to make sure you have enough billable hours eve=
ry week. VAs have asked me how they can =E2=80=9Cget their clients to give=
 them more hours?=E2=80=9D My response: =E2=80=9CYou can=E2=80=99t.=E2=80=
=9D Putting pressure on your client in any way is never a good idea. You=
=E2=80=99re here to help=2C not nag.<br>
=09&nbsp;</li>
=09<li style=3D"mso-line-height-rule: exactly;-ms-text-size-adjust: 100%;-=
webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;"><strong>Keep moving.&nbsp;</strong>One pro=
blem with slow-moving clients is that we wait for them instead of moving o=
n. Stop doing that.<br>
=09<br>
=09When a client stops responding or seems to be taking forever=2C check i=
n with them via email and then move on. Spend your time on&nbsp;<em>YOUR&n=
bsp;</em>business=2C specifically on bringing in more clients. Throughout=
 my 13-year career as a Virtual Assistant=2C I brought in between one and=
 three new clients every month and never ran out of work.<br>
=09&nbsp;</li>
=09<li style=3D"mso-line-height-rule: exactly;-ms-text-size-adjust: 100%;-=
webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;"><strong>Stop the worry.&nbsp;</strong>Two=
 common fears are: 1. You=E2=80=99ve done something wrong=2C and the clien=
t is angry at you=2C and 2. The client will wait until the last minute to=
 give you what you need to finish a project and still insist on the origin=
al deadline=2C even if it=E2=80=99s unrealistic.<br>
=09<br>
=09Problem number two is solved with a simple email.<br>
=09<br>
=09<em>=E2=80=9CThank you for sending X to me. When we originally set the=
 timeline=2C I expected to get X by DATE. Given my commitments=2C we=E2=80=
=99ll need to move the completion date to NEW DATE/TIME=E2=80=9D.</em><br>
=09<br>
=09And then #stoptalking. There is no need to get emotional or place blame=
=2E</li>
</ol>

 project is stalled doesn=E2=80=99t mean you=E2=80=99re in the wrong or th=
e client doesn=E2=80=99t care about you. It means that the work isn=E2=80=
=99t a priority for your client. Period.</strong></p>
