On Tuesday=2C I met one of my new neighbors=2C Sarah=2C on my daily walk.=
 A few people who know us both mentioned they thought we might become frie=
nds=2C so I was excited to cross paths with her.

Sarah and I immediately hit it off as she told me about her recent travels=
 to Asia and her personal training business. I told her about The VA Conne=
ction=C2=AE=2C Greg=2C and our kids (including the chickens). She said=2C=
 =E2=80=9CWow. You=E2=80=99re switched on.=E2=80=9D

I had never heard that expression before=2C and thought=2C that=E2=80=99s=
 the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me. I=E2=80=99m switched on. I l=
ove that.

And she=E2=80=99s right. I=E2=80=99m doing work that I love. I am in a lov=
ing and supportive marriage. Our kids are healthy. I take time to explore=
 my interests and hobbies. Life is good.

It hasn=E2=80=99t always been this way=2C but these five steps will help y=
ou flip your switch on:
1. Take have to out of your vocabulary. You give up all your power when yo=
u say I have to do something. You don=E2=80=99t actually have to do anythi=
ng. Sure=2C not doing certain things=2C like paying taxes=2C has consequen=
ces. But ultimately=2C you decide your actions. Try reframing your mindset=
 by saying=2C "I get to..." or "I want to..." and see how that goes. I bet=
 you=E2=80=99ll feel more in charge.

2. Take action to quit the job you hate. Get busy thinking about what you=
 could do to make money instead of commuting to a job you don=E2=80=99t li=
ke or working with people who make you crazy. For me=2C that meant becomin=
g a Virtual Assistant. My love of learning new things=2C solving problems=
=2C and working at home with lots of different people was a fit. And I was=
 able to replace my six-figure income by year two.

3. Pursue hobbies that excite you. Nothing switches me on more than a trip=
 to our coops to visit our chickens. I love to read about them=2C take the=
m snacks=2C and spoil them rotten. I=E2=80=99m planning the Virginia versi=
on of Chicken Village with lots of new chicks=2C elaborate gardens=2C and=
 bird feeders. Just thinking about it lights me up.

4. Make friends with people who are up to something. Spending time with pe=
ople who are switched on=2C too=2C is a lot of fun. They will share your e=
nthusiasm about your wins and cheer you on. You=E2=80=99ll be able to talk=
 about your ideas and brainstorm together. People who are up to something=
 are filled with possibilities and inspiration. You deserve that.

5. Count your blessings. Take time to reflect on all the successes in your=
 life. Keep a gratitude journal and make it a practice to talk about and c=
elebrate your wins. Remember that what you focus on expands =E2=80=93 so p=
ay attention to what you love.

We all occasionally turn our switches off; it's human nature.

Thankfully=2C we have the power to get ourselves back on track. Living a l=
ife you love happens one action and one thought at a time. Don=E2=80=99t w=
ait for a sign or reason to bring happiness back to your life. Make it hap=
pen now.
