When I started my Virtual Assistant business in 2010=2C my goal was to rep=
lace my six-figure corporate salary. I chose my rate=2C $50 an hour=2C and=
 calculated by billing eight hours a day for five days a week=2C I would h=
it the mark.

I had a coach who encouraged me and confirmed that clients would be willin=
g to pay $50 for the services I offered=2C so I got busy spreading the wor=
d and telling everyone I knew about my business.
The first year I was a Virtual Assistant=2C I made $70=2C000; for the next=
 ten years=2C I consistently made $100K or more a year.

Here=E2=80=99s why this worked:
1. I did the math. I knew what to charge per hour and how many billable ho=
urs I needed to hit the goal. Most VAs don=E2=80=99t do that. They set the=
ir hourly rate to what they think people will pay=2C usually much lower th=
an they could charge=2C and do the equivalent of a Hail Mary in football;=
 they throw the ball=2C close their eyes=2C and hope it all works out. Don=
=E2=80=99t do that.
Here's the simple calculation needed to decide your hourly rate:
Revenue =3D Hourly Rate x Billable Hours

2. I got the work. Calculating your rate to meet your financial target is=
 the start. Then=2C you need to make sure you have enough client work each=
 week to reach your goal.

3. I minded my own business. It=E2=80=99s human nature to compare ourselve=
s with others=2C but it rarely leads to success. If you suffer from impost=
er syndrome=2C you must stop looking around and focus on your business. It=
 doesn=E2=80=99t matter what people are charging in your town or halfway a=
round the world. Don=E2=80=99t waste precious time focusing on anything bu=
t your plan and path to success.

With so much conflicting information and endless distractions on the inter=
net about working as a Virtual Assistant=2C it can be confusing and overwh=
elming. Stop looking for the quick fix and get back to the basics that not=
 only work but also make sense.
