Brand new Virtual Assistants frequently ask me whether they need a portfol=
io of their work to get clients. The first time I was asked this question=
=2C I was stumped. I thought logically: How can you create a portfolio of=
 work before you have clients? If you were to create a portfolio=2C what w=
ould you put in it?

Then I thought=2C I bet new Virtual Assistants who have heard they need a=
 portfolio are spending time creating fictitious examples of work or learn=
ing new applications they believe will attract clients. If that=E2=80=99s=
 you=2C please stop. This wastes time and delays the whole process of gett=
ing your business off the ground.

I want you to get into action and do something else instead. Set up your b=
usiness. Spend time learning the software and systems your business needs.=
 This will translate to real-world experience and give you examples of you=
r work. A bonus is that it will also quiet Imposter Syndrome.

Here are some examples:
1. My newsletter. Not only has my RocketGirl newsletter=2C RocketFuel (htt=
ps://thevaconnection.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=3D329129029ab35cbb=
26ae77f1c&id=3D50c53549d3&e=3Da9cedb2a61) =2C served as a great way=
 to generate business and keep me in touch with my network=2C but it=E2=80=
=99s also planted a =E2=80=9Cnewsletter seed=E2=80=9D in the minds of all=
 my 1=2C800 subscribers. The result? When one of them wants to start their=
 newsletter=2C they ask me to help.

2. Credit card processing. My clients buy my time via credit card (https:/=
/thevaconnection.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=3D329129029ab35cbb26ae=
77f1c&id=3Def32e33e8c&e=3Da9cedb2a61) . Since I set this up on my we=
bsite=2C I=E2=80=99ve had dozens of requests to do the same for clients.

3. Automated scheduling. When I installed Acuity Scheduling (https://theva=
connection.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=3D329129029ab35cbb26ae77f1c&=
id=3D9a227a22e4&e=3Da9cedb2a61) on my website=2C I was trying to eli=
minate all the back and forth via email to schedule meetings. It definitel=
y worked. And =E2=80=A6 (I think you can guess what=E2=80=99s coming) =E2=
=80=A6 it=E2=80=99s led to at least 15 clients asking me to set up the sam=
e service for them.

4. Email signature. I set up my email signature with my title=2C contact i=
nfo=2C a link to book time on my calendar=2C and my logo. Clients and pote=
ntial clients were impressed and asked if I could create a signature for t=
hem.

The list goes on and on. For all of you life-long learners like me=2C ther=
e=E2=80=99s always something new being invented that we can use to enhance=
 our business and pass on to clients.

Most Virtual Assistants don=E2=80=99t take the steps to set up their busin=
ess in a professional way=2C so when you do=2C you=E2=80=99ll stand out fr=
om the crowd and be head and shoulders above the rest.

I want you to get into action and do something else instead. Set up <em>yo=
