My husband Greg and I moved to Virginia at the beginning of the year. The=
 most stressful part of the move for me has been finding a new hairstylist=
=2E

I don=E2=80=99t consider myself high maintenance in the personal care cate=
gory=2C but I have invested 8.5 hours and hundreds of dollars in my hair c=
are in the last four weeks=2C and it=E2=80=99s still not right.

Allison=2C my stylist in Connecticut=2C isn=E2=80=99t likely more skilled=
 than my new stylist in Virginia=2C Annie; they both have about 30 years o=
f experience. But Allison has more than eight years of experience with my=
 hair. She knows what I like and don=E2=80=99t like and has the formula fo=
r hair color that works. That is priceless.

If I could have the same experience with Annie right out of the gate=2C I=
 would gladly pay her Connecticut rates. I admit I was thrilled when I lea=
rned of the lower rates for hair care in Virginia=2C but price stopped bec=
oming an important factor very quickly.

And that got me thinking about the age-old question my Virtual Assistant s=
tudents ask about why someone would pay them $50=2C $60=2C or $70 an hour=
 when someone else will charge them far less.

It depends on what your clients are looking for.

For some entrepreneurs=2C mostly those who can=E2=80=99t afford you=2C you=
r hourly rate is one of the most important factors when choosing who to wo=
rk with. You can always tell when you=E2=80=99ve met someone driven by pri=
ce because their first question is=2C =E2=80=9CHow much will X cost?=E2=80=
=9D This is a red flag.

Clients who can afford your hourly rate and are willing to invest in their=
 businesses ask questions about your experience=2C work style=2C and how y=
ou can help them. This conversation feels more like a collaboration than a=
 transaction.

This type of client wants a long-term relationship with their Virtual Assi=
stant. They=E2=80=99ve likely been referred by someone they know and trust=
=2E They want the right person to stick with them and continue learning abou=
t the best ways to work with them so they don=E2=80=99t have to start over=
 again.

Cost is secondary.

Next time you wonder why anyone would pay more=2C think about if you=E2=80=
=99re offering what high-paying clients are looking for: commitment=2C rel=
iability=2C professionalism=2C timeliness=2C and trustworthiness. You can=
 stop thinking about what someone else is charging. That has nothing to do=
 with what clients will pay you.

ong>The most stressful part of the move for me has been finding a new hair=
stylist.</strong><br>

I don=E2=80=99t consider myself high maintenance in the personal care cate=
gory=2C but I have invested 8.5 hours and hundreds of dollars in my hair c=
are in the last four weeks=2C and it=E2=80=99s still not right.<br>
<br>
Allison=2C my stylist in Connecticut=2C isn=E2=80=99t likely more skilled=
 than my new stylist in Virginia=2C Annie; they both have about 30 years o=
f experience. But Allison has more than eight years of experience with&nbs=
p;<em>my</em>&nbsp;hair.&nbsp;<strong>She knows what I like and don=E2=80=
=99t like&nbsp;and has the formula for hair color that works. That is pric=
eless.</strong><br>

If I could have the same experience with Annie right out of the gate=2C I=
 would gladly pay her Connecticut rates. I admit I was thrilled when I lea=
rned of the lower rates for hair care in Virginia=2C but price stopped bec=
oming an important factor very quickly.<br>

<strong>And that got me thinking about the age-old question my Virtual Ass=
istant students ask about why someone would pay them $50=2C $60=2C or $70=
 an hour when someone else will charge them far less.</strong><br>
<br>
It depends on what your clients are looking for.<br>
<br>
For some entrepreneurs=2C&nbsp;<em>mostly those who can=E2=80=99t afford y=
ou</em>=2C your hourly rate is one of the most important factors when choo=
sing who to work with. You can always tell when you=E2=80=99ve met someone=
 driven by price because their first question is=2C =E2=80=9CHow much will=
 X cost?=E2=80=9D This is a red flag.<br>
<br>
Clients who&nbsp;<em>can afford your hourly rate</em>&nbsp;and are<em>&nbs=
p;willing to invest in their businesses</em>&nbsp;ask questions about your=
 experience=2C work style=2C and how you can help them. This conversation=
 feels more like a collaboration than a transaction.<br>
<br>
This type of client wants a long-term relationship with their Virtual Assi=
stant. They=E2=80=99ve likely been referred by someone they know and trust=
=2E They want the right person to stick with them and continue learning abou=
t the best ways to work with them so they don=E2=80=99t have to start over=
 again.<br>
<br>
<strong>Cost is secondary.</strong><br>
<br>
<strong>Next time you wonder why anyone would pay more=2C think about if y=
ou=E2=80=99re offering what high-paying clients are looking for: commitmen=
t=2C reliability=2C professionalism=2C timeliness=2C and trustworthiness.<=
/strong>&nbsp;You can stop thinking about what someone else is charging. T=
hat has nothing to do with what clients will pay you.</p>
