People thinking about becoming Virtual Assistants often worry they lack th=
e skills to succeed.

They talk to me about how long they have been out of the workplace=2C stre=
ss that they have no corporate experience=2C and fret about not being tech=
y.

That=E2=80=99s because they=E2=80=99re confused about how being a Virtual=
 Assistant works. They imagine they=E2=80=99ll have to jump through a lot=
 of hoops similar to a job interview=2C that they=E2=80=99ll need to prove=
 themselves in some way=2C and that there=E2=80=99s a lot of competition o=
ut there. So they assume it will be hard to find clients. They also wonder=
 if they=E2=80=99re too old to start something new.

Fortunately=2C none of that is true. Getting clients can be simple; here=
=E2=80=99s an example of how it works:

Sarah needs help with a PowerPoint presentation. Her friend Ron told her t=
hat you=E2=80=99re a Virtual Assistant and might be able to help. Sarah sc=
hedules a time to talk with you. She tells you what she needs=2C and you f=
igure out if you=E2=80=99re a fit for each other.

This is not an interview; it=E2=80=99s just a conversation.

If you know how to use PowerPoint=2C then great. If you don=E2=80=99t=2C y=
ou can either decline the work=2C refer the client to someone else=2C or b=
uy the PowerPoint for Dummy=E2=80=99s book and learn how it works.

When you=E2=80=99re a Virtual Assistant=2C you=E2=80=99re not working in f=
ront of your client in an office setting=2C so there is time to learn a ne=
w skill on your own time if the project interests you.

Even though the concern is getting the client's work done=2C the solution=
 to business success is getting Ron to know=2C remember=2C and understand=
 what you do as a Virtual Assistant. This way=2C he=E2=80=99ll tell the Sa=
rahs of the world about you when a need for help arises.

There are simple steps to make this happen. But many VAs are so worried ab=
out their skill set that they waste time trying to learn new software appl=
ications - instead of spreading the word about their business.

Here=E2=80=99s how to spend your time:
1. Learn how to talk about your business in a clear=2C simple way. You wan=
t people to be able to understand and remember what you offer. Here=E2=80=
=99s what I suggest:
=E2=80=9CI=E2=80=99m a Virtual Assistant. I work with entrepreneurs and sm=
all business owners. I help them with all their administrative work =E2=80=
=93 like updating their websites=2C setting up their newsletters=2C and he=
lping them set up online courses.=E2=80=9D
That=E2=80=99s all you need to say. Keep it short and sweet.

2. Tell everyone you know about your business. Everyone. Your friends=2C f=
amily=2C old boss=2C college friends=2C and dads who are waiting at the sc=
hool bus stop with their kids. Don=E2=80=99t prospect or try to get strate=
gic about who needs your help. You have no idea who the people you=E2=80=
=99re connected with know.
I could tell you more than 200 crazy stories about how my clients were ref=
erred to me. Just relax and spread the word. You=E2=80=99ll be surprised h=
ow many people are happy for you and rooting for you and your business suc=
cess.
Your best clients=2C hands down=2C will come from referrals. Let=E2=80=99s=
 make it easy for them.

It=E2=80=99s human nature not to bother people or talk about ourselves=2C=
 so we spend time setting up our business=2C launching our website=2C and=
 opening our bank account instead of the simple (but sometimes not easy) t=
ask of spreading the word.

Don=E2=80=99t be the best-kept secret out there. Remember=2C you=E2=80=99r=
e the solution to an entrepreneur's problem; make sure everyone knows abou=
t your business.

 being techy.<br>

That=E2=80=99s because they=E2=80=99re confused about how being a Virtual=
 Assistant works.<strong>&nbsp;They imagine they=E2=80=99ll have to jump t=
hrough a lot of hoops similar to a&nbsp;job&nbsp;interview=2C</strong>&nbs=
p;that they=E2=80=99ll need to prove themselves in some way=2C and that th=
ere=E2=80=99s a lot of competition out there. So they assume it will be ha=
rd to find clients.&nbsp;<strong>They also wonder if they=E2=80=99re too o=
ld to start something new.</strong><br>
<br>
Fortunately=2C none of that is true. Getting clients can be simple; here=
=E2=80=99s an example of how it works:<br>

Sarah needs help with a PowerPoint presentation. Her friend Ron told her t=
hat you=E2=80=99re a Virtual Assistant and might be able to help. Sarah sc=
hedules a time to talk with you. She tells you what she needs=2C and you f=
igure out if you=E2=80=99re a fit for&nbsp;<em>each other</em>.<br>

&nbsp;in front of your client in an office setting=2C so there is time to=
 learn a new skill on your own time if&nbsp;the&nbsp;project interests you=

<strong>Even though&nbsp;the&nbsp;<em>concern</em>&nbsp;is getting&nbsp;th=
e&nbsp;client's&nbsp;work&nbsp;done=2C&nbsp;the&nbsp;<em>solution</em>&nbs=
p;to business success is getting Ron to know=2C remember=2C and understand=
 what you do as a Virtual Assistant.&nbsp;</strong>This way=2C he=E2=80=99=
ll tell&nbsp;the&nbsp;Sarahs of&nbsp;the&nbsp;world about you when a need=

There are simple steps to make this happen. But many VAs are so worried ab=
out their skill set that they waste time trying to learn new software appl=

 referred to me. Just relax and spread&nbsp;the&nbsp;word. You=E2=80=99ll=
 be surprised how many people are happy for you and rooting for you and yo=
