Hey!

For two years I ran a blog, podcast and YouTube channel called

The podcast had over 100 episodes with a little over a thousand
downloads every week. The blog had a steady amount of visits.
Newsletter sign-ups were growing. It all looked like it was going
great.

Then I stopped everything. Cold turkey.

No more podcasts. No more blogs. No more videos. And, for two
years I didn't return.

I had burned out.

I told everyone I was just pausing things for a couple of months
to work on another project. But, those two months turned into two
more months, turned into a year, turned into much more than that.

Behind the scenes life was pretty tough. I was going through a
pretty tough season and I was trying to keep it all going. But,
eventually, I realized I had that the non-essential stuff had to
go. This was first on the list.

Why am I telling you all this?

This past June I started writing again. For the first time, the
thought of reengaging the audience I had built didn't include a
deep sense of existential dread. So, I gave it a shot.

To be honest, that first email back came with a pretty big
helping of imposter syndrome.

Would anyone want to hear from me anymore?
Would they hate me?
Would they feel like I was a joke and potentially tell me so?

And, yeah, there were a couple of people that were upset. But,
for the most part, everyone was so encouraging. In fact, they
were excited to hear from me again.

An older lady reached out. She said she had herself stepped away
from trying to become a web designer and my email showed her that
even if you had to take a step back you could start again.

The society we live in is truly all or nothing. Think of all the
quips you could probably finish without me saying them fully.

...winner takes???
...the early bird gets the???
...if you're not first your??? (okay Talledega Nights reference
but still counts)

Or even the lesser known:

...to the victor go the spoils
...history is written by the victors

But, the truth is life is much more complicated. Paths to success
are rarely if ever linear. And, even when they are, they still
come with a heavy helping of resistance and frustration.

So, don't get discouraged if you had to step back from the road
you thought you'd be on all the way to the gold medal podium.

Life is long. And, if you're still breathing, there's still time.

Maybe it's time to pick those dreams back up again. Or maybe
you're not ready yet.

Either way, there's always hope.

And, hope does not disappoint, my friends.
