At the beginning of life as a Virtual Assistant=2C it may seem like you=E2=
=80=99ll never have enough work. But things can change quickly. When they=
 do=2C and you bring on a steady stream of new clients=2C you may be surpr=
ised by how quickly your work can outstrip your available time.

This is a tricky situation. On the one hand=2C it=E2=80=99s not a good ide=
a to slow down the flow of work. On the other=2C you still need to meet yo=
ur deadlines and keep your promises.

Here are some tips to help out when this happens:
1. Block Your Calendar. This is something I do every week and it becomes e=
specially important when I=E2=80=99m juggling many deadlines. Blocking my=
 calendar allows me to keep what=E2=80=99s most important in front of me.

2. Manage Expectations. When I=E2=80=99m not at capacity it=E2=80=99s easy=
 to do the work quickly and delight my clients with speedy turnarounds. Wh=
en I=E2=80=99m over capacity=2C however=2C it=E2=80=99s critical to let cl=
ients know when they can expect their work to be completed. Time blocking=
 will help with this (see above) and some deadlines are more time sensitiv=
e than others=2C so make sure you pay attention to what needs to be done b=
y when and that you are up front with clients.

3. Don=E2=80=99t disappear. Even though it can be uncomfortable to negotia=
te deadlines with clients=2C keeping in touch will preserve your relations=
hip in the long term and make it stronger. Let clients know if you=E2=80=
=99re going to miss or cut a deadline close as soon as you realize it=E2=
=80=99s going to happen. Waiting until you miss a deadline is the worst po=
ssible strategy =E2=80=93 now you=E2=80=99ve got to apologize for not comm=
unicating=2C on top of not meeting your deadline! More on this topic here=

4. Take care of yourself. When you=E2=80=99re at or over capacity=2C the f=
irst thing you may do is stop taking care of yourself. That=E2=80=99s a bi=
g mistake and one which only digs the hole you=E2=80=99re in faster. Make=
 sure you eat well=2C exercise=2C and take some time off to relax. It migh=
t seem impossible=2C but experience has shown me that I=E2=80=99m better=
=2C faster=2C and more productive when I=E2=80=99m taking care of myself.

Too much work may seem like a great problem to have. It is=2C but it=E2=80=
=99s still a problem. Make sure you manage your relationships and use your=
 time wisely so that you can stay productive and be able to deliver.
