There=E2=80=99s a thrill at the beginning of each new year.

It=E2=80=99s a fresh start=2C a clean slate. Whatever happened in the past=
 can be wiped away with hope=2C determination=2C optimism=2C and the feeli=
ng that our time is now. This is the year that we=E2=80=99re going to get=
 it right. We can=E2=80=99t wait.

And it doesn=E2=80=99t matter if it=E2=80=99s an exercise plan=2C a weight=
 loss program=2C or a successful Virtual Assistant business that we=E2=80=
=99ve got our eye on. The feelings are big and exciting.

We make a plan and we=E2=80=99re doing great. Everything is cooking along.

And then one day=2C something happens and we=E2=80=99re thrown off. Maybe=
 we get sick=2C or the kids get sick=2C or the car breaks down=2C or the d=
og has to go to the vet. Nothing major=2C but we are definitely off balanc=
e. Things just got more difficult.

At this moment when things are not going according to plan=2C everything h=
angs in the balance.

If your goal is to exercise every day and you miss a day=2C you have two o=
ptions: you can cancel your gym membership or you can get back on the trea=
dmill the next day.

If your goal is to lose 10 pounds and you decide to eat a cookie=2C you ca=
n finish off the box or put the cookies down.

If your goal is to publish an email newsletter to grow your VA business an=
d you miss an issue=2C you can throw up your hands and say this is just to=
o hard=2C or you can sit down and start writing.

But the reality is that life happens=2C and circumstances change every day=
=2E To be successful=2C a better plan is to figure out how to accomplish you=
r goals no matter what happens.

Here are a few tips to stay on track:
1. Trust yourself. Once you set a goal=2C stop overthinking=2C questioning=
=2C or doubting yourself. Use your brainpower to take your next step=2C ev=
en if it=E2=80=99s uncomfortable or feels hard.

2. Start fresh every day. If you moved forward on your goal yesterday=2C s=
tart today by high-fiving yourself. If you didn=E2=80=99t=2C shake it off=
 and get busy today.

3. Give yourself grace. Beating yourself up won=E2=80=99t help you get tra=
ction on your goals. It will actually slow you down. Giving in to feeling=
 bad is nothing more than an unhelpful distraction.

Life doesn=E2=80=99t always go smoothly and stretching toward a goal isn=
=E2=80=99t always comfortable. But don=E2=80=99t throw roadblocks in your=
 way when the inevitable happens. New day. New Start. Go get =E2=80=98em!
