Hey!

It=E2=80=99s so easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of trying
to grow a business.

After all, you=E2=80=99ve got things to do!

* Emails to respond to
* People to onboard
* Invoices to send

But if you=E2=80=99re not careful, you=E2=80=99ll look up one day from the =
pile
that=E2=80=99s built up on your desk and ask yourself, =E2=80=9CHow the hec=
k did
I get here?=E2=80=9D

And listen, I know this is the season for setting goals and going
all in. But before you do, take a second to ask yourself an
important question:

=E2=80=9CWhat=E2=80=99s my North Star?=E2=80=9D

In business, your North Star is your big-picture goal=E2=80=94the real
reason you wanted to start your own business in the first place.

Here=E2=80=99s the thing: even though we all kind of intuitively know
what that goal is, it often sits somewhere in our subconscious,
unspoken and undefined.

And I=E2=80=99m not saying you need to sit down and manifest it. But if
you don=E2=80=99t bring it to the forefront of your thinking, you=E2=80=99l=
l
start making small compromises here and there=E2=80=94until one day, you
won=E2=80=99t even recognize the thing you=E2=80=99ve spent the last X year=
s
trying to build.

It=E2=80=99s like my friend Ashley from J. Ashley Innovations (

That=E2=80=99s why business owners are terrible at taking vacations.
They=E2=80=99re constantly tethered to their phones, convinced they=E2=80=
=99re
just a few bad days away from shutting everything down.

But it doesn=E2=80=99t have to be that way.

So how do you keep it from happening?

You get crystal clear on what you REALLY want to build. Not what
someone else wants. Not what you think your parents would approve
of.

What do YOU actually want to create?

That answer is your North Star.

And here=E2=80=99s the good news: it can be whatever you want it to be.

* Only want to work 20 hours a week?
* Want the freedom to experiment with wild ideas=E2=80=94even if they
lose money?
* Want to build a legacy you can hand off to your kids?

All of those are valid goals. But unless you get brutally honest
with yourself, you=E2=80=99ll always be chasing the next shiny thing. And
that next thing might lead you down a path you never wanted to
take.

So as you=E2=80=99re setting goals and building strategies, take a moment
to pause and ask yourself:

* Do I really need to make a gajillion dollars a year?
* Do I really need to take on this many projects at once?
* Do I really have to charge this little?

Then take your answers and map out a path to get there. You=E2=80=99ll
likely have to adjust along the way=E2=80=94heck, some of your answers
might even change.

But at least you=E2=80=99ll be moving in the direction you want to go=E2=80=
=94on
purpose, not by accident.
