After a discovery call with a prospective client=2C many VAs wonder about=
 follow-up. How much is enough? How much is too much?

Knowing what to do can be a tricky balancing act. On the one hand=2C we wa=
nt new clients. On the other hand=2C we don=E2=80=99t want to appear despe=
rate.

The good news is that almost all discovery calls fall into one of two comm=
on scenarios. Here is what they are and how to handle them:

Scenario #1: They=E2=80=99re Not Sure

As we end the discovery call=2C if the prospective client is not sure if t=
hey=E2=80=99re ready to get started=2C I will say:

=E2=80=9CIf questions come up as you=E2=80=99re thinking about working wit=
h me=2C please let me know. I=E2=80=99m happy to jump on another call with=
 you.=E2=80=9D And then I ask=2C =E2=80=9CWould you like me to follow up w=
ith you?=E2=80=9D

If they say no=2C I say=2C =E2=80=9CGreat =E2=80=93 thank you so much for=
 your time today.=E2=80=9D

If they say yes=2C I ask=2C =E2=80=9CWhen would you like me to do that?=E2=
=80=9D

Then=2C I immediately put the follow-up date on my calendar. When the day=
 arrives=2C I send an email like this:

Hi first name=2C

I hope you=E2=80=99re having a good day.

I=E2=80=99m following up on our conversation last week to see if any quest=
ions have come up about working with me.

I=E2=80=99m happy to jump on a call if that would be helpful.

If they reply=2C I respond. If they don=E2=80=99t reply=2C I do nothing.

Scenario #2: They=E2=80=99re Ready To Go

If they say they=E2=80=99re ready to go and want to start working with me=
=2C I send them an email like this:

Hi first name=2C

I enjoyed meeting with you today and look forward to getting started with=
 you.

Here=E2=80=99s a link to buy your Debit Card: LINK

If they don=E2=80=99t buy the Debit Card within two days=2C I take the ema=
il from my sent folder and forward it to them with a note that says:

Hi first name=2C

I just want to make sure this didn=E2=80=99t go to your spam folder.

I look forward to getting started. Let me know if you have any questions.

If they don=E2=80=99t respond or buy the Debit Card=2C I don=E2=80=99t fol=
low up again.

A few things to keep in mind=E2=80=A6

You have no idea what=E2=80=99s going on in your prospective client=E2=80=
=99s life=2C so please don=E2=80=99t assume that silence on their part has=
 anything to do with you. Maybe their cat just died or they won the lotter=
y. You just don=E2=80=99t know.

You don=E2=80=99t want to work with someone who=E2=80=99s not ready (trust=
 me). So don=E2=80=99t try to talk them into it or try to =E2=80=9Csell=E2=
=80=9D them.

Be sure to add them to your email newsletter list and publish regularly. Y=
our newsletter can serve as a gentle reminder without you emailing them di=
rectly.

Most important=2C just because they=E2=80=99re not ready now=2C doesn=E2=
=80=99t mean that they won=E2=80=99t circle back around. You just never kn=
ow!
