When you started looking for a way to work from home and heard about being=
 a Virtual Assistant=2C I bet you thought it sounded ideal. You'd set your=
 own hours=2C decide how much money you want to make=2C and do work you=E2=
=80=99re good at=E2=80=94and love.

But if you=E2=80=99re like me and had a successful career doing something=
 else=E2=80=94in corporate or another field=E2=80=94you might be worried a=
bout what people will think. You might even be asking yourself=2C =E2=80=
=9CHow can I go from [fill in the blank] to being someone=E2=80=99s assis=
tant?=E2=80=9D

I had that voice in my head 14 years ago when I decided to become a VA=2C=
 as well as the voices of my friends and family who thought I=E2=80=99d lo=
st my mind.
* =E2=80=9CYou have so many skills; why would you settle for being someone=
=E2=80=99s assistant?=E2=80=9D
* =E2=80=9CYou=E2=80=99ll never be able to make =E2=80=98real=E2=80=99 mon=
ey doing that.=E2=80=9D
* =E2=80=9CYou already had one failed business; isn=E2=80=99t it time to g=
et a job?=E2=80=9D

They tried to convince me that I would be better off in a traditional 9-5=
 setting with a steady paycheck and benefits. To them=2C it seemed like I=
 was taking a step back instead of forward.

But deep down=2C I knew working for someone else wouldn=E2=80=99t allow me=
 to have the lifestyle I wanted=E2=80=94the freedom to plan my days=2C be=
 home with Emily after school=2C and take care of her when she was sick=
 =E2=80=A6 all without a boss's permission.

At age 50=2C when I began my VA journey=2C I=E2=80=99d reached a point whe=
re I was done asking for permission.

So I leaped and stopped talking about it with the doubters. I stopped comp=
aring myself to people who=E2=80=99d chosen to climb the corporate ladder.=
 I forged my own path.

I quickly realized that being a Virtual Assistant isn=E2=80=99t =E2=80=9Cj=
ust being someone=E2=80=99s assistant.=E2=80=9D It=E2=80=99s so much more.=
 It=E2=80=99s about being a business owner=2C a problem-solver=2C and a tr=
usted partner. It=E2=80=99s about leveraging my unique skills and experien=
ces while working with my clients. And it=E2=80=99s the smartest=2C most d=
irect path to making a consistent living=E2=80=94often earning more than I=
 did in my previous career.

Over the years=2C I=E2=80=99ve built a thriving business=2C fulfilling rel=
ationships with amazing clients=2C and a life I love. I enjoy time flexibi=
lity=2C choosing who I work with=2C and deciding how much I=E2=80=99ll mak=
e. I=E2=80=99ve proven to myself what I knew deep down when I started: thi=
s path isn=E2=80=99t a step backward; it=E2=80=99s a leap forward.
